Latest ISIS Culture Crime
The Conflict Antiquities archaeo-blog has published pictures proving that ISIS has dynamited a mosque and shrine devoted to Jonah the Prophet. Another site lost to Islamic fanatics bent destroying not only places venerated by Christians and Jews, but even other, fellow Muslims. Very sad.
And the explosives paid for by US numismatists, UK/US detectorists and relic hunters, the usual loonies on the fringe of sanity will surely claim any time soon.

Sure enough, it didn't take long, and they were true to form. Chuckle, chuckle!
ReplyDeleteOver on another topic, commenting on the jailing of Macedonia's top archaeologist, Pasko Kuzman, the former head of Macedonia’s Cultural Heritage Protection Office who has been found guilty of aiding a criminal ring to excavate and sell off valuable archaeological artifacts (seehttp://www.balkaninsight.com/)
our favorite archeo-blogger who can't bring himself to admit crime exists within the World's heritage circus, reckons the conviction was politically motivated.
Horror, shock! What evidence does our man offer in support? "The recent history of the equivalent services in Poland - where I know the people involved - contain three very good (bad) examples of precisely this sort of thing," He says.
Macedonia then, if he's to believed, is as corrupt as Poland when it comes to heritage matters? Surely not.
Best wishes
