King Tut Gold Mask Botch Job: Calls for Investigation as Head Restorer Demoted
While the archaeological blogosphere is still claiming the Tut Gold Mask botch job is no big deal or even that such concerns that have been raised stem from "neo-colonialist" attitudes, more serious commentators have demanded an investigation and the head of restoration at the Cairo Museum has been demoted. At least the offending restoration specialist was not condemned to death. That has already happened to others in Sisi's Egypt for those charged with destruction of cultural property.
Indeed, the conservator-in-chief was lucky not to have been shot at dawn.
ReplyDeleteGrovelling apologists for piss-poor Egyptian conservators, can be seen by reading Paul Barford's pro-military Egyptian blog. Barford then, in typical narcissistic style, promotes himself...
"...Unlike the UK metal detectorists currently attempting to use the media frenzy about the use of glue in order to attack me personally (sic),..."
Ha! As if Paul Barford is important in the scale of anything! Cheeky sod. What a prize for UNESCO he must be.
Desperate is as desperate does!

Paul Barford the so-so archaeo-blogger has descended further into the sewer with his latest comment (Friday, 30 January 2015) on his wretched blog:-
ReplyDelete"...coin dealers and metal detectorists (suddenly experts in conservation when it is brown-skinned folk presuming to do the work) are still making a meal of the Tutankhamun glue job."
Now he labels anyone with serious views contrary to his own, as racists. Is it any wonder I find him such a repulsive specimen of humanity.
I am starting to wonder... just what kind of people populate archaeology?
Best wishes
