Debunking the ISIS Antiquities Funding Myth

Kate FitzGibbon writes on debunking the ISIS antiquities funding myth for the Committee for Cultural Policy website.  Hopefully, others as well will start calling the State Department and archaeological lobby into account for their ongoing efforts to exaggerate the value of ISIS looted antiquities.

  1. Hello Peter:

"There is a hidden agenda behind adoption of a story that promotes the Big Lie of ISIS’ funding through antiquities – the denigration and destruction of the legitimate international trade in art," writes Kate Fitzgibbon.

What I find so amazing is that its taken so long for the media to wake up to the fact they've been sold a pig-in-a-poke by people in the heritage circus once thought to be trustworthy.

Her article strengthens my oft-repeated mantra that:"The heritage must not be left in the hands of unaccountable archaeology." Who guards the guardians (so-called)?

I feel the trouble with the slowly sinking ship of archaeology is that the rats are still on board.
